COMMERCIAL | DIY Photos vs Professional Photos

As many of our readers know, we photograph more than just weddings and family portraits. A few years ago I photographed a group of real estate agents who needs new photos for their marketing materials. I mentioned that we do more than just headshots and told them to give me a call I could help them out with anything else.

A few years later, one of the agents contacted me that she needed a newer business portrait taken and wanted to chat about working together on a regular basis. Meet Judy Croyle from William Raveis. Being in the real estate industry, Judy wanted to make sure she was displaying accurate photos of the properties she was listing for her clients. She knew that many buyers browse the internet and rely on photos to determine which properties they will visit. Teaming up with a professional photographer whose gear and lighting would help promote her listings was a no brainer. She admits to taking her own photos on some listings but now that we have worked together she won’t be doing that again. She has seen significant results in just moments of making a listing live on the MLS website.

For the property below, we photographed it yesterday morning (Wednesday) at 10:15AM. The shoot took 45 minutes because it was a two family building and both units needed to be photographed. As soon as we got back to the studio, we uploaded the images and edited them for the MLS website. Judy had her images by noon via DropBox. And her listing was online by early afternoon. She received a few calls immediately which was awesome. This morning (Thursday) she emailed us to say she already had 3 appointments scheduled! Double awesome!

Below are two visual examples displaying what a DIY property photo will look like vs a professional photo. Both images were photographed by me and taken from the same spot. While the DIY photo may look decent on it’s own, it certainly does not compare to the professional image:
