Hands down this is one of my favorites photos from Evan and Kristen’s engagement session at Fort Adams in Newport, RI

Last Fall, we partnered up with Mullen Brothers Jewelers for their annual Proposal Package Giveaway Weekend. We included a complimentary two hour engagement session and an 11×14 mounted print as our way of saying congratulations to the lucky couple. Evan and Kristen won the giveaway.

We first spoke towards to end of January 216 which was a little over a month after Evan proposed. At the time, they didn’t have a wedding date selected so I told him no rush, and to give us a call in June and July to check in. The couple chose Fort Adams in Newport, Rhode Island as their location for their two hour complimentary engagement session because they had attended the Newport Folk Festival and had such an amazing time. It really worked out to be the perfect venue and there were so many photo opportunities! As some of our readers and fans know, we LOVE photographing abandoned buildings and peeling paint so this was our playground! So many awesome photos to share!

Below is a short interview we had with Evan. Read on to learn about his EPIC proposal!
Q: How did you meet?
A: “Kristen and I met at a First Communion when we were 12. The Communion was for a family friend and Kristen insists that I did not like her when I first met her. That’s just false.”

Q: When was your first date?
A: “After chatting online on and off for several years, we finally started dating. Our first date was at Patriot Place, where we went to see Gran Torino.”

Q: How did you get engaged?
A: “We got engaged after seeing Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. I put together a themed proposal video that included music and a slideshow and had it displayed on an LED billboard truck supplied by Promotion with Motion. I really wanted to propose before the end of 2015. Our family and friends were planning on seeing Star Wars on opening night {a group of 24 people} so I knew it was an opportunity to propose with everyone present.”

Evan came up with the unique Star Wars themed proposal so we had to incorporate Star Wars into the engagement session.

Q: What advice can you give engaged couples looking to hire a wedding photographer?
A: “Reach out to your prospective wedding photographer and simply have a conversation. The work they produce is definitely an important factor but being able to communicate effectively with them is key.”

Q: What did you learn during your engagement session that will be helpful on your wedding day?
A: “Overcast conditions aren’t the end of the world when it comes to outdoor photography.”

Q: What did you learn about us during your session? {This can be random fun facts etc}
A: “Nicole loves cracked/peeling paint!”

I got to use my love for peeling paint and incorporate it into the session. It helps when you clients have an eye for art!

Q: How has working with us helped with your wedding planning so far?
A: “Kristen and I really liked the guest sign in book option that Nicole was able to provide. That would be one less thing we’d have to think about preparing for the wedding.”

Q: What’s your favorite engagement photo from your session so far?
A: “The photo of Kristen and I standing amidst the Queen Anne’s lace on the side of Fort Adams is our favorite! It’s the one we had ordered as our free 11″ x 14” mounted print.
