Recently, I had the joy of photographing my bonus daughter, Alex, as they prepare to take this significant step into adulthood.
Raising a teenager can feel like a rollercoaster—some days are exhilarating, while others can be downright challenging. And let’s be honest, being a teenager isn’t exactly a walk in the park either! Between the pressures of school, social life, and figuring out who they want to be, it’s a whirlwind. That’s why it’s so important to pause and celebrate this milestone with beautiful portraits that reflect their unique spark.
The Challenge of Teen Portraits
Getting a teenager on board for a photoshoot can sometimes feel like pulling teeth! Convincing them to smile on cue? Even harder! But that’s where we come in. Our laid-back approach allows teens to relax, which is key to capturing their authentic selves. We promise to skip the cheesy poses and instead focus on the real essence of who they are.
To make the session feel more personal, we encourage outfit changes and props that showcase their interests—be it sports gear, hobbies, or favorite accessories. This adds a special touch and makes the photos even more meaningful.
Exploring Fort Wetherill
For Alex’s shoot, we chose one of our favorite local spots: Fort Wetherill. This abandoned WWII fort offered some incredible backdrops, complete with striking graffiti and the rustic charm that only comes with age. It was the perfect setting to highlight her individuality and creativity.
After our session, we delivered some stunning 11x14 prints and a beautiful canvas collage wrap that I know she and her family will cherish for years to come. It’s these tangible reminders of their journey that make all the difference.
