Their first date was in Middlebury, Vermont at Two brothers Tavern. At the time he was living in Burlington, and she was in Rutland, so it was a halfway point for them. Nowadays they reside in Connecticut, living on campus at the boarding school where Tennyson teaches.

When Alex first reached out, I asked what significance Rhode Island has for them. He said they found Providence to be "an oasis and escape from rural Connecticut" and said “on a whim” last year they decided to head for Providence and spent Labor Day weekend. They loved the variety of food and thought it was so lively. Since some of their new favorite places are in our capital city, Alex thought it right to propose in the place that brings them so much joy. Awwwww!

Alex knew he wanted to preserve the memory of the proposal but didn't want to rely on a bystander with a cell phone to capture the moment - That’s when he called me! They were coming to Providence for a few days and planned to pop the question. In the weeks leading up to the proposal, there were a lot of cold, cloudy, and rainy days. We made sure to plan alternative options in case an outdoor proposal was not feasible. Nothing was left to chance!

Luckily, the day we planned was beautiful and sunny, so when Tennyson and Alex came strolling across the Providence Pedestrian Bridge, they did not notice a couple photographers nearby earnestly photographing the river. As Alex got down on bended knee, we whipped around with our cameras and sprung into action!

Tennyson was in complete shock and laughed the entire time, as you can see from the photos above, his proposal brought her to her knees! These two were a lot of fun to work with and walking the riverfront afterwards for a few post-proposal engagement portraits was such a good time. It was awesome to hear Tennyson talk about how at ease we made her feel once she realized she was being photographed; we strive to make all our clients as comfortable as possible!

As you can imagine, Tennyson said “Yes!” and we are so honored to now be a part of Tennyson and Alex’s happy Providence memories!
