Last month we had the opportunity to photograph a surprise proposal on Block Island. We had been conversing Denver, the soon to be “Groom,” for 3-4 weeks prior to the session brainstorming how he would surprise his girlfriend, where we would actually do the photos etc. Denver planned to propose of June 24th which marked his two year anniversary with his girlfriend Valerie. A challenge that Denver faced when planning this session was how he was going to make sure his girlfriend would be “photo ready”. He kept telling me that she will be mad if she doesn’t look good! Block Island is where they went on their first date and where they go on each anniversary.
In order for Valerie to be “photo ready” her sister Cassie told her that she won a portrait session and passed it on to her. About a week before the session, Valerie and I were texting about what she should wear and where we would meet. Thankfully, Valerie didn’t call me – I would have bee afraid to accidentally spill the beans!
The weather leading up to the 24th was rather wet and that AM didn’t look so hot either but we still went! I had to message Valerie saying that we would get awesome photos no matter what while Denver was texting me that she was freaking out!
Luckily, by the time we got on the ferry the sun was breaking through the clouds. We ended up having the best weather which made for even better photos. Denver totally surprised Valerie, she had NO idea, and of course she said yes!
Denver and Valerie are planning their wedding for October of 2018 at Saphire Estate in MA
