It’s all about being in the right place at the right time. Just ask Jarrod and Hannah.

These two met about a year ago when they both attended the same concert at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, RI. Hannah says, “I was late! I was meeting up with my cousin for a fun night out, but everything was going wrong. I was running behind so I had no dinner, no cash and the concert already started by the time I got there.” Enter the part about timing: “I was waiting in line at the ATM when the handsome guy behind me awkwardly mumbled that he liked my glasses. The moment is so clear to me that I could probably tell you every detail down to what graffiti was on the wall. It was one of those “at first site” moments. I went back to tell my cousin that I met this guys in line at the ATM”..she was like “What! How? You only got here three minutes ago!”

My second favorite part of this chance encounter is the conversation that following the “nice glasses”. Hannah heard Jarrod tell his friend that beers at Lupo’s were about $5 each so he was going to take $50 out at the ATM. Hannah’s brilliant ice breakers was, “What are you going to buy, like 20 beers?” as soon as she said it she realized she sounds like a complete idiot. So, to save face, she turned back around and said, “I just wanted to let you know that I’m a computer programmer, so you don’t think I’m a total fool.” He smiled, and said, “That’s OK. I’m a mathematician.”

Their first date was May 1st. They met for drinks in Warwick and talked until the bar closed. “As we were leaving he asked me if I wanted to go watch the sunrise in Portland, Maine. It was so crazy I HAD to say yes! We drove all night, grabbed some coffee and bagels, and watch the sunrise over a dock in Portland.” {Um, can we say, he’s a keeper?!}

How Jarrod proposed: “He made a pretty amazing dinner, but that’s not unusual because he’s a great chef. He asked me to come into the living room after dinner, and when I turned the corner he was down on one knee. He said he had all these ideas about big, elaborate proposals, but for me nothing is more perfect than a cozy, quiet Sunday with the one you love.”

Fast forward to Saturday, February 18th – their wedding day. It was sunny and relatively mild for February. Paul and I met them at NYLO in Warwick to capture some getting ready photos and coordinate their first look. We took some photos of the two of them at and around NYLO and then headed over to the Rhode Island Yacht Club {RIYC} in Cranston to photograph the families prior to their ceremony.

Hannah decided she wanted a nontraditional dress for her nontraditional wedding. So she used Rent The Runway. She said she had used Rent The Runway in the past and trusted the process and knew what to expect/ Renting allowed her to get the dress she wanted without the commitment of paying full price for a designer gown. She knew she did not want to wear white, but said “If you’re not going to wear white, I think the dress has to be an elevated style so you still look like a bride.” She confidently says that “if any brides out there are hesitant about taking the non-traditional route and want to wear a color on their wedding day – just go for it! You do you, and you’ll be happier and more comfortable.”

They had a personalized ceremony inside at the Rhode Island Yacht Club which was followed by cocktail hour and appetizers and a sit down dinner from Revolution American Bistro.

Having an eye for the arts and photography herself, Hannah brought a Fuji Instax instant camera with her so she could snap some fun candids during her reception. “There were so many great candids! When you have a toy camera, people don’t pose like they do when you bring out an iPhone. It’s more natural and fun.”

Hannah and Jarrod decided to stay at a private residence in Great Barrington in the Berkshires.
