As you may know, we were at the 2022 Newport Wedding Show and offered a door prize of a complimentary engagement session, including a 16x20 canvas print. Well, Andrew and Kelsey were the lucky winners of our prize, and we had a lovely time photographing them during sunset at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown, Rhode Island!
Andrew and Kelsey were specific about the location because Beavertail is so sentimental to them. Kelsey is from Florida, which is where they met, and Beavertail around sunset was the first place Andrew took her when they started dating and visited Rhode Island together. We love when clients and couples choose locations meaningful to them; it will make the photos even more special to look back on as the years go by!
Sunset at Beavertail during Andrew and Kelsey’s engagement shoot did. Not. Disappoint! If you are familiar with the area, you know the park and lighthouse are situated on a rocky peninsula in the center of Narragansett Bay with views of Newport on one side and Narragansett on the other. This offers spectacular opportunities for photos taking advantage of the changing light from all angles!
Going along with their sentimental theme, Andrew and Kelsey included their fur-baby, Garrus, in their engagement session, too! For the most dog-friendly photo ops, we started at Mackerel Cove, which is a tiny beach on a narrow strip of land directly on the way to Beavertail. We were lucky to have the area mostly to ourselves. Of course, the high winds that day might have kept others away. Kelsey and Andrew were troopers, though – you cannot even tell in the photos how chilly they were!

How did you meet?
We met in Florida through an online dating website.
Where was your first date?
We went to a Thai restaurant for dinner in Winter Park, FL. The dinner went so well we continued our date and went to a local brewery to continue talking.
Where / how did you get engaged?
We got engaged at Stepstone Falls hiking trail in West Greenwich. Andrew proposed on the bridge that crosses the river.
What was your favorite part of your session?
Though Beavertail was a bit chilly, I was thrilled with the sunset. It was beautiful! I also love the rocky cliffs/beaches of RI, it was the first place Andrew took me when visiting RI for the first time. So, celebrating such an occasion at a meaningful place was very special to us.
Why was it important for you to have engagement photos taken?
Beyond selfies and photos snapped from family members on special occasions Andrew and I do not have any professional pictures of ourselves together. Having these photos will be something we can look back on fondly for many years, and we are happy to have beautiful photos to celebrate our engagement.
